At the Acol – the home of bridge and London’s most famous teaching club - we specialise in providing a complete bridge education.
Whether you want to play with expert supervision, social bridge with friends, ‘gentle’ or competitive duplicate, we have the bridge answers for you. All of our courses have been designed by our teaching maestro, Andrew McIntosh.
Our carefully structured beginners’ programme consists of three courses, starting with Beginners, followed by Next Step and finishing with Improvers. All of these courses are available three times a year either as six weekly lessons or an intensive weekend. These courses are principally aimed at those who have never played the game before, but are also suitable for people who want to brush up on their basic bridge skills.
While you are on our beginners’ programme, you should aim to do supervised play at least once a week to consolidate your knowledge and understanding and to maximise progress. Once you have completed the improvers’ course, you are ready to try Gentle Duplicate, should you wish to take the plunge.
Once you have completed our beginners’ programme and the Basic Card Play and Defence course you will have plenty of experience under your belt and will be ready to move on to the next stage of our learning programme. This starts with the Intermediate, progressing to Six of the Best and culminating in the Advanced course. These three courses cover all key aspects of bidding and duplicate tactics.
Along the way, we also offer several card-play courses concentrating on more sophisticated aspects of declarer play and defence.
Please look at our Learning Ladder to see a summary of our course structure or visit our Course Information page for more details of all our courses.
